As the buds are swelling and bursting, now is a critical time to monitor for earwigs. They like to eat the nutrient rich buds when they swell and burst. They can destroy buds entirely especially when there are high numbers of them. To reduce the numbers we mix an insecticide and cracked grain which we spread out lightly to kill them and bring the numbers down.
