This is a great example of why weed management is important in the orchard. This plant here is a nightshade plant and if not controlled can grow very large. This plant here was one of the biggest ones i've seen in the orchard. It would have been competing with the tree for light and nutrients. Weeds also harbour pests that can also attack the trees.
Mulching, spraying under trees and chipping weeds are the best ways to keep weeds down. This particular block has very light mulch so more weeds are able to grow.
