We have put a series of fruit fly traps around the orchard to monitor the numbers. We monitor fruit fly numbers because if we were to reach the number where attention is needed, we would need to spray to prevent damage to the crop. Fruit fly damage the fruit and can cause damaging loss if not monitored correctly.
We put traps under the netting within the shade as fruit flies do not like the sun. We also put the traps on trees outside of the net. This is so we can not only monitor the overall numbers, but also the number of fruit flies that are getting in under the netting. The netting acts like a barrier that the fruit fly cant go through, so we put a trap under to make sure that is true.
